Simmering Wood Stove Potpourri

Don't you just love curling up under some cozy blankets this time of year? Despite my dislike for the cold weather, one thing I truly enjoy is being able to concoct different wood stove potpourri recipes that simmer all day long, making the house that extra bit cozy and enjoyable!

I'm currently sniffing the beautiful aromas of 1/2 an apple, 5 whole cloves and 2 cinnamon sticks that are simmering away on the wood stove. I'm surrounded by the scent of a freshly baked apple pie and loving every whiff!
Some other combinations I love and will be trying this season are:
  • 1 orange or clementine, 2 cinnamon sticks and 1/2 an apple.
  • 1 vanilla bean and a few sticks of cinnamon (if you don't have a vanilla bean toss in a few tablespoons of vanilla extract!)
  • 1 sprig of fresh rosemary, 4 lemon wheels and 2 cinnamon sticks
Remember to replace the water in your cast iron stove steamer every so often so that the potpourri wont burn. If you don't have a wood stove you can just as easily make these potpourris on your stove top in a medium sized pot!

Please share some of your home made potpourri recipes with me on twitter @_caitkane.
